My kitchen is destroyed, so now I shall blog

I put things off, what can I say? :-D

Today was a good day, no one was injured at my second day on the job.  I read Illinois and North Carolina licensing statutes all day and lived to tell the tale. I love my commute though — it’s only like 35 minutes instead of an hour or sometimes more! I don’t have to get on Rt. 128 anymore, and that’s so fantastic.

I started the day off with a Green Monster smoothie.  I used a few big handfuls of kale and beet greens and 1 cup unsweetened Hemp Bliss Hemp Milk (I was using the Original Manitoba Harvest hemp milk previously, but I realized it was sweetened with brown rice syrup, which I liked, but I don’t really need).  I added a full banana, some frozen mango, a scoop of Amazing Grass Green Superfood Powder, a bit of water and a few drops of liquid vanilla stevia. The beet greens made it THICK.  But it was nice to change up my usual spinach or kale.  I also had an orange from a crate that I picked up at Costco.  They are so deliciously sweet.  It was not my last orange of the day.  ;-)

Around 10:30 I got hungry and went to my car to get a snack.  I have to keep my snack bars in the trunk otherwise I will eat them all at once.  Because I am a locust.

I had a Banana Bread Lara Bar for the first time and I think this was my least favorite flavor. I’m not a huge banana flavor fan (though I like bananas).  The flavor in food always seems a little overly sweet. I think my favorite flavor of Lara Bar is the Coconut Cream Pie.  It’s the only bar that actually tastes like the dessert from which it derives its name.  The other bars are okay, but I think the presence of dates sort of makes them all taste the same.  I still manage to eat them pretty regularly though since they’re nourishing and portable.  :-)

Since my new job is pretty close to heaven, I took myself out to lunch thinking I’d have tons of vegan options in the deli that would curl my toes.  I was kinda right and wrong.  There were lots of chocolates at the chocolate counter that were vegan, and I filched some apple and orange samples… I also scored a vegan chocolate chip cookie.  But the food was… surprisingly junky.  Wood-fired pizzas and eggplant parm, which smelled great but there was the cheese issue.  Since I didn’t want to eat vegan chocolates and fruit for lunch, I ended up going to town filling a container with grilled veggies (I think I ate a pound of grilled mushrooms and zuchini).  In addition to my bucket o’ veg and my vegan cookie, I got a Vitacoco.  When I got to the checkout counter, I nearly passed out.  TWENTY TWO DOLLARS for a pile of veggies, a cookie, and some coconut water!  :-O  I gulped back my astonishment and helped myself to more oranges on my way out the door to achieve some financial balance.  :-)

I’m just kicking myself because that money could have bought like three meals at The Seedling Cafe and I would have relished the food more.

Live and learn.  I got home and made Mexican food with Husband — sauteed bell peppers, onions and black beans with an Ezekiel tortilla and a side of raw tomatoes, cucumbers, and bell peppers.  He had some grilled chicken thighs with his meal while I slathered everything on my plate in salsa (my supply of salsa is, like, depleted.  Have I been drinking this stuff at night in my sleep?  Where is it going?). The salsa was so good, I tore another Ezekiel tortilla into “chips” and slathered some more. Before dinner, I had a sweet orange.  After dinner… I had two sweet oranges.  :-)   Then I was stuffed and I played with my new toy…

A SPIRALIZER!!!

I am so excited!!  I got the same model featured in Gena’s giveaway a few weeks ago over at Choosing Raw (which I did not win and which bummed me out, but to prove that giveaways do work for companies, I went and bought the spirooli from Paderno World Cusine, the exact same model she was giving away).  The spirooli news will have to wait until tomorrow.

Peace,

Elizabeth

Ooh, before I forget, Keep it Simple Foods is giving away Sunshine Burgers!  I really want to try their new falafel patty because I love me some falafel and most attempts I’ve made to eat them at home (either pre-made or in a mix you put together yourself) have failed tragically. I’ve really enjoyed the Southwest Burger (with salsa, natch) and the Garden Herb Burger.  Because it’s made with seeds and grains, you get a vegan, gluten-freen burger that tastes like food, instead of bland soy weirdness.
